PhraseBolt Privacy Policy
Last updated: 28 October 2026
PhraseBolt is a Chrome extension that replaces short shortcuts you type with your saved snippets. This policy explains what it does with data. Short version: your snippets stay in your browser, what you type is never recorded, and there is no PhraseBolt server.
What PhraseBolt stores
Your snippets, folders, settings and a local counter of expansions/characters saved are stored in your browser with chrome.storage.local. If you turn on sync (optional, Pro), your snippets are also stored in chrome.storage.sync, which Google Chrome syncs across the computers where you are signed in to Chrome. PhraseBolt has no account system and no server of its own.
What PhraseBolt reads while you type
To work in any text field, PhraseBolt’s content script runs on all websites and in frames. When you type in an editable field, it reads only the characters immediately before the caret — at most the length of your longest shortcut — and compares them with your shortcuts on your device. These characters are not stored, logged or transmitted, and the rest of the page is not read. PhraseBolt does not run in password fields or fields marked for card numbers or one-time codes. You can turn it off for any website from the toolbar popup or Settings.
Clipboard
Only if you create a snippet containing {clipboard}, PhraseBolt asks for Chrome’s clipboard permission. It reads the clipboard only at the moment such a snippet expands, inserts the text into the field, and keeps nothing.
License keys and payments
PhraseBolt Pro is sold through Lemon Squeezy, our merchant of record. Lemon Squeezy collects your email and payment details at checkout under its own privacy policy. When you paste a license key, PhraseBolt sends the key to api.lemonsqueezy.com to activate it and re-checks it about twice a day. The key, plan name and purchase email are stored in Chrome sync storage so your plan follows your Chrome profile. The 7-day trial start date is stored there too, so reinstalling does not reset it.
Shared packs
When you create a pack link, the selected snippets are compressed into the part of the link after #. Browsers do not send that part to servers, so the pack page decodes it in your browser and nothing is uploaded. Anyone you give the link to can read those snippets.
What PhraseBolt does not do
No analytics, no ads, no tracking, no selling or sharing of data, no remote code. The only network requests PhraseBolt makes are the Lemon Squeezy license calls above.
Deleting your data
Delete snippets in the dashboard, use “Remove key from this browser” under Plan & license, or uninstall the extension to delete everything stored locally. Turn off sync before uninstalling if you also want to clear the copy in Chrome sync.
